Volunteer

Whether you are a professional teacher, an ESL tutor, or simply want to sit and speak English while playing with a child, we can use your help. Learning English is the skill most likely to lead a child to long-term success in Tanzania and direct contact with English speakers is vital to learning to speak the language well.

Do you want to embark on a life-changing journey?

We need volunteers to teach English. and being an experienced teacher is not a requirement. All you need is a desire to help and a love of children (and be an English speaker of course).

While we accept both short-term and long-term volunteers, those that stay longer can have a profound effect on the students' lives and their English abilities.

Housing is provided and a living subsidy is available for anyone staying 6 months or more. You may stay as long as you want.

While this could be one of the greatest experiences in your life, you should be aware that Berega is a remote village with few resources. Lighting the Way Tanzania and our team members will provide as much help and advice as possible to prepare you for your time there. The position requires an innovative and adaptable spirit, It is as challenging as it is rewarding. Couples and friends are encouraged to apply to travel and work together.

You may read former volunteer blogs (below) to learn more about what to expect (which is often the unexpected).

It isn't all about the teaching. Experience everything that Tanzania and Africa have to offer. All of our volunteers have amazing stories to share about their time here.
